Some Songs I’ve Made— and Some That Aren’t Mine — Recorded in One Go Because I’m Too Lazy to Do Them Properly
What the title says
Su Tissue was an enigmatic singer-songwriter who played for the band Suburban Lawns. The internet is (strangely) obsessed with her, and with the slight oddities in her behaviour.
She rose to fame, then left the music and film industries—seemingly for good.
But before she disappeared, she released Salon de Musique, a one-take recording of some of her piano pieces. It’s beautiful to listen to.
I live next to a recording studio. For a while now, I’ve been thinking about going in and recording some songs I’ve been playing for over two years. I never did.
Instead, inspired by Su, I decided to just sit down and record them all in one go, with a few pieces in between, flowing one into the next (with mild success).
Here it is, for your audio-visual pleasure. The songs, in order, are:
Alistair’s Pondering (by me)
Paul’s Dance (by Penguin Cafe Orchestra)
Shanne Bradley (by The Pogues)
Banana Peal (by Me)
Battle of Brisbane (by The Pogues)
Winter’s Love (by Animal Collective).
A couple of years ago, I put out more music online under the moniker My Sweet Warm Heart. If you're curious, my favourites from that time are It Is Starting to Get Hazy and Fork Shorts. They lean into a different style of music — but alas.
